American Freedom Alliance mourns the sudden passing of its founder and president, Avi Davis.
He was a great friend, a truly fine man, and an intellectual powerhouse whose sudden loss we all feel acutely.
Avi and this organization have been a tremendous force for freedom, and the Board of Directors of AFA has been meeting to ensure that this important work continues.  We are committed to the mission, and to honoring Avi.
Recently, Avi had written this:
Happiness comes in life not by wanting but by giving; and then, of course, by expressing gratitude and humility for whatever small portion of good luck we are privileged to enjoy as a result. To BE happy, in the end, is to be grateful - thankful for our extraordinary good fortune to be alive.
If this is the case, and we believe it to be, Avi Davis must truly have been one of the happiest of men, and we are grateful to have known him.

PALESTINIANS HAVE THE U.S. TO THANK FOR THEIR INTERNATIONAL STATURE

A kleptocratic, corrupt, racist, terrorist-sponsoring political organization, led by liars and thieves, feels sufficiently emboldened to demand of the U.N. Security Council recognition of its sovereignty – and almost succeeds.

CASTRO BROTHERS WILL BE THE ONLY WINNERS FROM U.S.- CUBAN RAPPROCHEMENT
by Avi Davis
Posted on December 30, 2014

Christopher Columbus did not discover America.  At least not North America.  On October 12, 1492  –  the day we celebrate as Columbus Day – he instead landed at one of the thousand islands that make up the Bahamas Archipelago.   The closest he got to North America was two weeks later, when he set anchor on the north-east coast of what today we know as  Cuba.  Although Columbus would make landings in his later voyages on the Central American coast and the northern coast of South America, he did not step one foot on the coast of the land mass that would one day constitute the territory of the  United States of America.

While other Spanish explorers would land, 20 years later, on the north-east coast of La Florida and name it for the Spanish crown, neither the Spaniards nor the Portuguese would show much interest in colonizing the continent until at least 170 years passed, when the first Spanish Jesuit mission was established in California.

RUSSIA'S NEW POTEMKIN VILLAGE
by Avi Davis
Posted on December 23, 2014

In 1787 , Empress Catherine II ( known as ” the Great”)  was planning a trip to the Crimea to inspect her imperial territory.  According to legend, Prince Grigory Potemkin, her first minister of state, in order to impress his accomplishments upon his monarch ( and lover)  erected a series of fake settlements along the banks of the Dnieper River so as to fool her into believing that the Southern Crimea was actually far more prosperous than anyone had accounted.

AN EMPTY VESSEL? THE UNIVERSITY AND THE COLLAPSE OF TEACHING STANDARDS

By Avi Davis

Picture this: An attractive young woman at a job interview - well tailored, with an engaging smile and an extensive resume. She has graduated summa cum laude from Vassar, has earned four degrees - one of them a law degree from Boalt Law School. At her interview she is asked a question about the founding of the United States: "Can you tell me when the United States was founded?" The young woman looks a little puzzled and after a few reflective moments responds: " 1940?"

Okay, the interviewer thinks, some people are just not good with dates. " Can you perhaps tell me then, the name of our first President?" Another moment of stunned silence followed by a sheepish response: "Jimmy Carter? "

It is tempting to characterize this woman's disgraceful paucity of knowledge about her country's origins as an outlier, unrepresentative of her generation. But that would be to gloss over a yawning gulf between our current crop of graduates and the educated Americans who preceded her. For today it is not only common for students to graduate college without the slightest knowledge of the foundations of the American republic, but also without the ability to spell correctly, write cogent sentences, perform basic mathematical equations or speak one sentence of the English language without the word "like" included.

The Closing of the Collegiate Mind

Opponents of free speech have chalked up many campus victories lately as ideological conformity marches on.

By RUTH R. WISSE May 11, 2014 5:18 p.m. ET . The Wall Street Journal

There was a time when people looking for intellectual debate turned away from politics to the university. Political backrooms bred slogans and bagmen; universities fostered educated discussion. But when students in the 1960s began occupying university property like the thugs of regimes America was fighting abroad, the venues gradually reversed. Open debate is now protected only in the polity: In universities, muggers prevail.

Assaults on intellectual and political freedom have been making headlines. Pressure from faculty egged on by Muslim groups induced Brandeis University last month not to grant Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the proponent of women's rights under Islam, an intended honorary degree at its convocation. This was a replay of 1994, when Brandeis faculty demanded that trustees rescind their decision to award an honorary degree to Jeane Kirkpatrick, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. In each case, a faculty cabal joined by (let us charitably say) ignorant students promoted the value of repression over the values of America's liberal democracy.

European 'No-Go' Zones for Non-Muslims Proliferating "Occupation Without Tanks or Soldiers"
by Soeren Kern. August 22, 2011, Gatestone Institute

Islamic extremists are stepping up the creation of "no-go" areas in European cities that are off-limits to non-Muslims. Many of the "no-go" zones function as microstates governed by Islamic Sharia law. Host-country authorities effectively have lost control in these areas and in many instances are unable to provide even basic public aid such as police, fire fighting and ambulance services. The "no-go" areas are the by-product of decades of multicultural policies that have encouraged Muslim immigrants to create parallel societies and remain segregated rather than become integrated into their European host nations.

JOHN HOWARD: GLOBAL WARMING BATTLE  ‘HAS BECOME A RELIGION’
Nov. 6, 2013,  Ben Webster, The Times

People who believe that the world is facing catastrophe from climate change have adopted the cause as a “substitute religion”, according John Howard, the former Prime Minister of Australia.

John Howard accused some scientists of having a “nakedly political agenda” in their advice on global warming and said that attempts were being made to intimidate politicians by telling them to “follow the science”. Delivering a lecture in London last night, Mr Howard said he doubted that a global agreement on cutting emissions would be reached. He described himself as an “agnostic on global warming” and said that those who gave apocalyptic warnings of the effects of greenhouse gas emissions should remember mankind’s “infinite capacity to adapt”.

World Council of Churches Stands By As Christians Perish, Churches Witherby
Gatestone Institute. By: Malcolm Lowe
October 22, 2013 at 5:00 am

Who needs the WCC any more? Would the world, let alone Middle East Christians, be better off without it?
The World Council of Churches (WCC) in Geneva claims to represent and serve 345 churches worldwide. What has it done to help the persecuted churches in Iraq, Syria and Egypt? Or the flood of Syrian refugees into Jordan and Lebanon? Answer: it has devoted the whole of 2013 to promoting a World Week for Peace in Palestine Israel (September 22-28). That is, it has poured its Swiss francs into stirring up the one corner of the area that is currently almost calm.

Murdered Christian Children The Price of Obama's Pro-Brotherhood Jihad by Raymond Ibrahim,  FrontPageMagazine.com, October 23, 2013

Who is more deserving of punishment by the United States? Millions of Egyptians, for ousting the Muslim Brotherhood? Or the Muslim Brotherhood, for habitually terrorizing and murdering Christians, among many other crimes?According to the unmistakably clear actions of the Obama administration, it is the millions of anti-Brotherhood Egyptians who deserve punishment.
Last Sunday, the Church of the Virgin Mary in Waraq near Cairo was attacked during a wedding ceremony, leaving four dead and many wounded. According to Dr. Hisham Abdul Hamid of forensics, two of those who were murdered were Christian children—two girls; two Marys: 12-year-old Mary Nabil Fahmy, who took five shots in the chest, and 8-year-old Mary Ashraf Masih (meaning "Christ"), who took a bullet in the back which burst from the front

The Degradation of Christian Women under Islam: Muslim Persecution of Christians: June, 2013
Gatestone Institute. by Raymond Ibrahim September 11, 2013 at 5:00 am

The degradation of Christian women living in the Islamic world continued in the month of June. In Syria, after the al-Qaeda linked rebel group conquered Qusair, a city of the governate of Homs, 15-year-old Mariam was kidnapped, repeatedly gang raped according to a fatwa legitimizing the rape of non-Sunni women by any Muslim waging jihad against Syria's government, and then executed.

AMERICAN FREEDOM ALLIANCE TO HOST FORUM AND RALLY TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT THE WORLDWIDE PERSECUTION OF CHRISTIAN COMMUNITIES

Los Angeles, CA The American Freedom Alliance, a Los Angeles based think-tank and activist network, will hold a forum and rally to bring attention to the growing persecution of Christian communities in many parts of the world today. The forum will take place Sunday, October 27, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, at the Luxe Bel Air Hotel, 11461 Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90049. General Admission is $15.00. Parking is by valet for $5.00.

Throughout the world today, Christian communities are suffering greater persecution than at any time since the days of the early Roman Empire. Mass slaughter, church burnings, suicide bombings, expulsions, intimidation and ritual killings have been reported from Nigeria to Egypt; from Pakistan to Indonesia. Centuries old Christian communities are disappearing before our very eyes and the world seems to be shrugging its shoulders. Christians in Muslim countries in particular are paying with their lives for their identification with their religion - most noticeably the Copts of Egypt, whose trials under both the secular regime of Hosni Mubarak and the Muslim Brotherhood have shaken that society to its core.

Message to CA Representatives: Obama’s Not Yet Proven Case for Syria
By Larry Greenfield, Senior Fellow, American Freedom Alliance
Flashreport.org, September 9, 2013

The California Congressional House delegation of 53 representatives includes experienced national security hands like Republican Committee Chairmen “Buck” McKeon (Armed Services) and Ed Royce (Foreign Affairs), as well as former Reagan administration official Dana Rohrbacher and U.S. military veterans Darrell Issa, Duncan Hunter, Jr. and Paul Cook.

On the Democrat side there are some freshman with quite limited foreign policy bona fides, while the two longtime U.S. Senators from California have frequently voted along Democrat party lines and can be expected to continue that path.

Leftists Defend Radical Islam — Conservatives Befriend Secular Muslims
By Larry Greenfield, Senior Fellow, American Freedom Alliance
FrontpageMag.com, April 29, 2013

On April 11th, 2013, I participated in a public forum entitled “Islamists Rising in the Middle East: Where Next for America?” The panel was held at the University of California at Davis, (UCD), as a free event for the community, organized by the student club of the Ayn Rand Institute (ARI).

As an alum of nearby UC Berkeley, I expected some interest in the program, having previously documented campus radicalism in California.

The panel included a leading scholar on the Middle East, Daniel Pipes, known for well-informed and well-traveled insights. His main theme for the evening was that radical Islam is the problem, and moderate Islam is the solution.

Taxed Enough Already: A Brief History of U.S. Taxation
The power to tax is the power to destroy.
By Larry Greenfield, Senior Fellow, American Freedom Alliance
PJ Media, April 15, 2013

As the American colonial economy grew, the British Crown imposed duties on molasses, rum, sugar, wine, newspapers, legal documents, licenses, and playing cards. Even more taxes were then imposed on glass, lead, paper, paint, and tea, leading to the Boston Tea Party, resulting in the closing of the Eastern port and imposed British military command.

Redefining America Those who would have us be something closer to tyranny are winning.
By Larry Greenfield, Senior Fellow, American Freedom Alliance
PJ Media, April 5, 2013

Superman, the character created in 1938 whose deeds inspired generations of young Americans, renounced his U.S. citizenship in 2011, for the 900th issue of Action Comics. The fictional patriotic warrior for American values stated: “Truth, justice, and the American way — it’s not enough anymore.” Further: “I intend to speak before the United Nations and inform them that I am renouncing my U.S. citizenship. I’m tired of having my actions construed as instruments of U.S. policy.”

The Mighty Maze: Part II
By Robert Paquette
seethruedu.com April 2, 2013

How’s this for a Happy Easter story? A few days ago various media reported that Professor Deandre Poole, a Democratic Party activist and Instructor in the School of Communication & Multimedia Studies at Florida Atlantic University, had undertaken with students in his class on intercultural communication another cutting-edge experiment in postmodern education in the United States. He told them to extract a piece of paper from their notebooks, write boldly the word “Jesus” upon it, place the inscribed paper on the floor near their desks, and then stomp on it. One student in the class, a devout Mormon named Ryan Rotela, refused to obey. He left the class and complained to Poole’s superiors. They, in turn, initially responded to his complaint by suspending him. Not until the story went viral, eliciting an outpouring of public criticism of the school and launching an investigation by Governor Rick Scott into the actions taken by employees of a public university, did FAU officials furiously backpedal. They issued a public apology and announced that Professor Poole, praise the Lord, has departed the campus on (paid?) “administrative leave.”

Is Religious Revivalism in the Air?
By Larry Greenfield, Senior Fellow, American Freedom Alliance

The spring holidays are deeply meaningful to many American families. The Passover week honors God's redemption of His people from slavery.

The most widely practiced Jewish ritual, the Seder meal, a "festival of freedom," re-tells the ancient story of the Exodus from Egypt, reminding us to cherish our liberty today.

Before clicking Like of President Barack Hussein Obama, who seeks a public relations benefit on the eve of Holy Week and Passover, Israel and its supporters might consider how much Obama has UnLiked them to date.

Obama’s background, worldview, and policies make him no friend of the Jewish state. Obama’s boyhood in Indonesia brought him to Islam, the religion of his controversial father, step-father, and half-brothers in Kenya, and he retains warm feelings toward the Muslim faith

This is CNN: Moral Equivalence from Ashleigh Banfield
By Larry Greenfield, Senior Fellow, American Freedom Alliance

CNN’s Ashleigh Banfield exhibited smug rudeness in her November 16 interview of patient Israeli UN Ambassador Ron Prosor. What John Lennon Failed to Imagine by Avi Davis

Its a landmark event for Beatledom. John Lennon, dead these 30 years, would have turned 70-years-old today.

For many 60′s survivors who grew up in thrall to the Fab Four, the idea that such an important symbol of the youth culture had arrived at the threshold of old age (if such a category still exists in our teen obsessed culture) must be profoundly unsettling. Continue Reading...
